THE funeral of an Irish woman who died after being stabbed in New York will take place next week.
Sarah McNally, 41, was knifed at The Céilí House pub where she worked on Grand Avenue in Maspeth, Queens, last Saturday at around at around 6.30pm.
The Longford woman, who previously worked for the Irish Prison Service, was stabbed while working as a bartender in the pub.
Her boyfriend Marcin Pieciak, 36, has been charged with her murder.
Pieciak, who had been in a relationship with Sarah for several months, was arraigned from his hospital bed on Wednesday, where he is receiving treatment for serious wounds.
During Pieciak’s appearance in court yesterday, the hearing was also told that her death had shocked the community.
Ms Katz said: “It was unprovoked and we are using every resource to make sure there is accountability.
“This is an attack that has shocked the community.”
The Longford woman’s partner is also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
If convicted, he faces up to twenty five years in prison.
The court also heard the accused had also suffered self inflicted stab wounds.
Sarah is being repatriated to Ireland with the help of The Kevin Bell Trust.
Her funeral notice reads: “Sarah McNally, New York & Longford , tragically on 30th March 2024.
“Sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, her loving mother Dorrie, dear father Des, grandmother Kathleen O’Connor, aunts, uncles, relatives, extended family and a wide circle of friends in Longford and New York.”
Her funeral mass will take place at St.Mel’s Cathedral at 11am on Monday.
It adds: “Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Sunday 7th April from 5.00pm concluding with prayers at 8.00pm.
“Mass of The Resurrection at 11.00am on Monday 8th April in St.Mel’s Cathedral followed by a private cremation.
“Family flowers only please donations if desired to The Kevin Bell Trust – www.kbrtrust.com or c/o Glennon Funeral Directors or any family member.”
The service will be streamed online for those who cannot make it to the church.
Tributes are pouring in for “beautiful” Sarah on social media.
Aunt Mary McNally said: “Rest in peace my beautiful niece Sarah – we are heartbroken. Love you always.”
Another aunt, Margaret Gaffey said: “Our beautiful niece was taken all too soon.”
Her cousin Petra Smith said: “My beautiful cousin – just can’t believe it.”
