IRISH people have been left heartbroken after a popular pub near Dublin Airport closed for good.

The Boot Inn, which was loved by plane spotters, has shut its doors for the final time.

The bar first opened 430 years ago in 1593.

Radio host Adrian Kennedy shared the “sad” news with his social media followers.

He said: “Really sad to see the closure of The Boot Inn.

“This pub opened in 1593 and traded ever since.

“Back in the day it was the venue for Jets NightClub!

“The continual expansion of Dublin Airport is responsible for this disgraceful closure.

“Best of luck for to proprietors John & Catherine for the future.”

A number of people rushed to the comments and said they will miss it and shared their favourite memories.

One person wrote: “Had my 18th and 21st here! Too many great memories.”

Another added: “Very sad to see it go.”

Someone else wrote: “Terrible shame. Had many a pint in The Boot Inn. Iona Airways was right beside it.

“Jets nightclub behind it. All long gone, and now the Inn itself is to close.

“My children spotted aircraft from the field in the top section of the car park on Saturdays or Sundays.”

Meanwhile, another busy pub in Cork has announced they are set to close after five years in business.

The Coleman family opened the Old Market Bar and Bistro in Bandon, Cork, after deciding to start their own business and give up “secure, full-time work”.

In a shock move, the couple announced the closure of their much-loved pub due to new lease terms.

They described the new terms as “not financially sustainable” amid the cost of living crisis.

The Old Market Bar and Bistro will cease trading on Sunday, April 7, and any bookings that were made after that will be transferred to other restaurants in the town.

The pair said they are “heartbroken” about the decision, but they plan on moving their food business to the Crossmahon bar nearby.

Any unused vouchers that aren’t used before the end of this week can be redeemed there.

The owners issued a heartfelt thank you to the “exceptional” people of Bannon for their years of support, along with their staff.
