AN Irish pub has been left devastated after a popular barman passed away earlier this week.
Sean Kearney, who worked at Grogans Pub in Dublin city centre for over five decades, died at St James’ Hospital on Wednesday.
And the pub has announced they will close next Tuesday as a mark of respect as Sean’s funeral takes place.
They took to social media to pay tribute to their “great friend and colleague”.
A spokesperson wrote on X: “It is with great sadness we must announce the passing of our great friend and colleague of over 50 years, Sean Kearney.
“Sean was a much loved institution in Grogans and and will be missed immensely by all here.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. As a mark of respect for Sean and his family, Grogans will be closed on Tuesday 16th April for Sean’s funeral.”
A number of customers commented underneath to share their memories of the Palmerstown man.
One said: “Sean was a wonderful man, a rock in the bar, and a gentleman.
“Condolences to the Kearney family and staff in Grogans.”
Another added: “So very sorry to hear this sad news.
“Sean was an absolute legend and he will be greatly missed.
“Deepest condolences to all Sean’s family and friends.”
Someone else wrote: “He was a gentleman. I had many pints pulled by his hand. RIP.”
Sean is “very sadly missed” by his heartbroken friends and family.
His funeral mass will take place at The Church of St. Matthews, Ballyfermot on Tuesday, April 16.
His death notice reads: “Kearney Sean. Palmerstown, formerly of Clonbollogue Co. Offaly and Grogans bar.
“10th April 2024 passed away peacefully in St. James’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
“Beloved husband of Theresa and loving Dad to Shauna and Laura. Dadó of Mary and Lowri, very sadly missed by his family, sons-in-law Joe and Craig, brother M.P. and sister Mary, special family friend Janice, nieces and nephews, relatives, wide circle of friends and neighbours.
“Sean will be Reposing in Staffords Funeral Home, Ballyfermot on Monday, 15th of April, from 2pm-5pm.
“Removal on Tuesday morning to the Church of St. Matthews, Ballyfermot for 11:30am funeral mass followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium.”
