A PUNTER has been left “gutted” after being charged an eye-watering sum for just one round of drinks in Dublin’s Temple Bar.

The round included just one pint of Heineken, a Coke, two Malibu rums, and six Baby Guinness shots.

And many have been left reeling over the steep prices of the drinks after the receipt was posted by @Ryan_AVFCC on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.

The shocking receipt totalled a jaw-dropping €107.20 – with one pint of Heineken alone costing Ryan €11.45.

The punter also forked over €22.70 for two Malibu’s, €4.95 for a Coke and an outrageous €68.10 for six Baby Guinness shots.

And, after spotting that each shot of Baby Guinness worked out at a whopping €11.35 each, one punter cried: “I’d never check my bank app again”.

Temple Bar, known for its lively atmosphere, traditional Irish music, and bustling crowd of tourists, often attracts high prices.

But the bottom of the receipt tried to justify the shocking total.

It said: “All prices include VAT, live music and cover charge”.

Many social media users have taken to the app to express their outrage at the total cost of just one round of drinks.

And one person admitted that they got caught out by the high prices before.

He said: “Dublin is brutal. Did €82 on four gin & tonics last year. Left my glass for one minute it was swept up by glass collector half full.”

Another person questioned: “It’s a tourist trap bar what the f*** do you expect?”

Ryan admitted that he “knew it would be expensive” but didn’t expect the bill to be so high.

A third person branded the prices “insane” whilst another blasted that the total cost of the drinks were “a joke”.

PRICE PERSPECTIVE

Another punter joked that you would “have to sell a kidney” in order to be able to afford a round of drinks in the popular Dublin establishment whilst another cracked: “Hope they sprinkled some gold on top”.

And another person even claimed: “More than my food shopping bill for week.”

To put the price into perspective, a 70cl bottle of Malibu in Dunnes Stores is currently priced at €17.50 – which is considerably less than the €22.70 bill Ryan paid for two shots of the stuff at the pub.

And the average price of a pint in Heineken in Ireland, according to an Irish Independent survey last month, is around €6 – meaning Ryan’s pint cost him almost double what it would in a different county.

A 70cl bottle of Kahlua Coffee Liqueor is currently €25 in Dunnes Stores whilst a 70cl bottle of Baileys is on sale for €12.

A standard shot in a pub is normally 35ml – meaning Ryan could have had at least 40 shots of Baby Guinness for €37 – if he did a half and half serving of each bottle – rather than coughing up over €68 for six servings.

The Irish Sun reached out to The Temple Bar for a comment but did not receive an immediate reply.
