Ireland is famous for the Wild Atlantic Way, which is a route that follows the coast along the Atlantic Ocean, with many travelling from across the world to see it.

And dotted along the route are numerous pubs with gorgeous views.

Some even have beer gardens, meaning you can enjoy the lovely Irish scenery while sipping on a cold pint.

Smugglers Creek Inn in Rossnowlagh, County Donegal, is one beer garden that is sure to be busy during the warmer months.

The Inn overlooks Rossnowlagh beach, and many tourists stop in for a quick pint or even a stay.

It also offers four rooms with en-suites, a twin room and a self-contained cottage, all with front or side views of Rossnowlagh Beach and Donegal Bay.

This makes it the perfect place to stop over on your journey across Ireland – and it’s pet friendly too.

The bar and grill is nestled on the cliffs overlooking Donegal Bay and the Blue Stack Mountains in the south of the county, and dates back to the early 1900s.

While enjoying a delicious meal and a nice cool beverage you can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic.

The name comes from the old legend surrounding the village of Rossnowlagh.

In history it was said to have been a village with a flourishing smuggling trade.

According to legend, the notorious sea captain had a cottage on the shores of Durnesh Lake, which can still be seen marked on old maps.

The captain was a smuggler and pirate who spent his days roaming the seas with his crew.

When the sea was stormy, they used the creek under the inn to land their vessel, while they smuggled their contraband up the old hidden path.

Now, that area is known as Smugglers Creek.

LIVE MUSIC

The Inn is a vibrant bar and restaurant that also offers live music.

Visitors can enjoy the music every Saturday from June to October, as well as every Friday night in July and August.

They also play on all Irish, Northern Irish and UK bank holiday Saturdays.

There is a trad session every Tuesday night throughout July and August.

It opens every day from mid-May until mid-September, and every weekend apart from that.

It is closed for the winter between mid-November and 26 December every year.

It features a bar, conservatory restaurant and gallery dining room – all of which offer unreal views of the scenery.

IRISH FEEL

The bar has a true Irish feel with a fireplace, a stove, rustic brick walls, old timber beams, vintage signage and old items adorning the shelves.

You can choose to dine inside or outside in the beer garden.

And your small pets can enjoy the outdoor beer garden alongside you.

It was originally built by the MacLaine family in 1907, and was then known as the Strand View Hotel.

After they moved to Northern Ireland, the property was given to Mrs Wylie, Mr MacLaine’s sister, before going through several owners.

The property was then bought by Conor Britton and turned into Smugglers Creek which opened in 1992.

It has since won many awards for its food and drink, and was then bought by Hong Kong businesswoman Emily Browne in 2009.
