A MAYO pub is taking a stand against an incoming price hike by vowing to sell €5 pints of Guinness.

The price of the black stuff has gone up by four to six cent depending on the area.

It comes after parent company Diageo increased the price of a keg amid a surge in the drink‘s popularity.

The company told publicans in January that the price of multiple drinks they own will see a 6 per cent increase before VAT.

The list includes Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Hophouse 13 and Harp.

But a small pub in the Yew County has vowed to keep serving their beloved customers at the usual price.

In protest of the new price, The Ranch at Claremorris have said they will continue to charge €5 for a pint.

Their vow comes as people around the country could see the price of Guinness hit above €6.

And in Dublin, punters could fork out over €7 for the popular drink.

Bosses at The Ranch took to social media to promise customers not to give in to the latest price increase.

Posting on Instagram, they said: “Everyone knows Diageo couldn’t care less about small businesses or our customers with their 4th price increase in the last 2 and a half years coming into effect last week.

“Is it any wonder pubs and restaurants are closing by the dozens every week all over the country when all we get are letters from Multinationals, Diageo, Heineken and Sky advising of price increases nearly on a biannual basis at this stage.

“Doing business in Ireland is becoming unsustainable.”

The pub bosses claimed they love their customers and want to support the local community they have been serving for years.

They continued: “On a brighter note, we at The Ranch love our customers and have decided to go against the grain and drop the price of a pint of Guinness to €5 from today

“We love our customers and community and will continue to support in whatever way we can.”
