A MAN who was seriously injured in an assault in Dublin last weekend has died in hospital.
Gardai arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the attack – which took place in a car park outside the entrance to a pub in Clonsilla – and he appeared before Blanchardstown District Court on Tuesday.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 11pm on Sunday night after receiving reports of an incident and the victim, aged in his 40s, was rushed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
The injured man had been treated at the scene by a passer-by but remained in a critical condition.
Gardai confirmed this morning that he passed away last night.
A family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.
A garda spokesperson urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information – particularly motorists in the area and a medical professional who provided the man with assistance at the scene.
A statement said: “Gardai continue to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the premises at the time of the incident to come forward.
“They are also appealing to anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam footage from Clonsilla Road between the junctions of Shelerin Road and Porterstown Road at the time to contact them.
“In particular, investigating Gardai are appealing to an off-duty medical professional that provided medical assistance at the scene to make himself known to Gardaí in Blanchardstown.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
