A POPULAR Galway pub has issued a hilarious response after being bombarded with messages from punters hoping to see a well known DJ.
Local pub Tig Coili was rumoured to be the spot where musician Fred Again would crop up.
Rumours began circulating that the DJ had been spotted on the streets of Galway city.
And it was said that he would repeat his surprise Kerry gig at a local pub.
There was speculation that Fred Again would ring in the New Year with a gig at Tig Coili.
And some of the local bar staff and security even got in on the joke by confirming the rumours.
One Galway punter said: “Obsessed with every pub, bartender and security in Galway feeding into the rumours of Fred Again being in their pub to get people to come.
“Anyway lads, he’s in Sally Longs.”
Tig Cioli was seemingly swarmed with messages asking if he would appear at the pub.
But bosses were quick to shut down rumours with a hilarious response.
They said: “Howye lads and all Happy New Year to ye!!
“Apparently this lad, Fred Again (who i never heard of…sorry!!) Was in the pub over the last couple of days enjoying some Creamy Pints!
“I got about 30 messages from people wondering was he DJ ing in the pub!
“Ah come on lads, take a look around the place!!
“There’s no “Fred Again”…..”Right says Fred “….or any other type of Fred playing in the pub in the near future!
“Unless he has a set that caters for Joe Burke to the Kilfinora Ceili band he has no chance.
“Sorry to the lad who initially asked me about him over the counter and received back a blank confused stare!
“We’ll stick to the sessions folks, I think!”
Although many that were in on the joke spread the rumour for a laugh, many were hopeful that it was true.
Taking to social media, punters tried to find out the truth about when and where Fred Again might be playing.
One user said: “Is Fred Again playing in Galway tonight? Or just a rumour?
“Not seen it advertised although he did turn up in a pub in Kerry in September and worked his magic”
Another asked: “Fred Again is in Galway. Is he doing a gig tonight? Anybody know?”
