She was joined by twin sister Martina and they featured in all 11 series of the show, hosted by Pat Sharp, from 1989 to 1999.

But she has now ditched her pom-poms and ra-ra skirt to serve punters at the Royal Victoria Pavilion in her home town of Ramsgate, Kent.

The mum of one said: “Since Fun House came to an end, Martina and I haven’t been on TV regularly.

“We still get the odd showbiz jobs here and there but it’s not my full-time job anymore and I needed something to pay the bills.

“I’ve always been a real people person and I love working with the public, so when the Wetherspoons job came up, I thought it sounded perfect.

“I love having a chat with the punters.

“It’s surprising how often I get recognised after all these years.

“It’s crazy how many people are still big fans of Fun House now.”

Melanie and her twin— who now works for cosmetics company Clarins — still pick up the occasional corporate gig with Pat at holiday resorts and get requests to film video messages for fans.

But she said: “It would be great to make a TV comeback — I’d love to do Strictly or I’m A Celeb.

“I’m just waiting on a call from the producers.”

Melanie’s boss, Chris Whitbourn, said: “To have Mel here is superb.

“I used to watch Fun House as a kid and then found myself interviewing her for a job here.

“She is a great staff member and an asset to the pub.”
