PREMIER Inn has sparked outrage by forcing punters to queue in single file at one of its hotel bars.

The change is meant to provide “fair” service, but means customers at the Gatwick Airport hotel no longer huddle round the pumps.

A sign at the branch’s bar said: “We want to provide a fair service to everyone.

“Queue up at the beginning of the bar and we’ll be with you soon.”

Guests lashed out online, with one writing: “If it’s a queuing system, the bar should only be four foot wide.”

Another fumed: “Some of the best chats I’ve had have been with randoms at a bar while waiting to be served.

“It isn’t a Post Office, there’s no need to queue.”

Pubs across the country brought in the hated measure during the Covid pandemic to comply with social distancing.

Wetherspoon chain boss Tim Martin complained the move has since sparked “anarchy” as punters are now confused over which system to use.

Premier Inn said the move was a one-off approach.

They added: “Our hotel at Gatwick is our busiest hotel in the UK.

“Our team operates a hugely successful and efficient restaurant service where drinks can be served to tables.

“But on the occasion the guest would like a drink at the bar in this hotel, we have implemented a system to ensure guests are served as quickly and fairly as possible.”
