TWO new beers are set to land in 15 iconic Dublin pubs as punters are “buzzing” to try the offerings from the brand new brewery.

The Changing Times Brewery is based in Glasnevin, Dublin, and was founded by those behind some of Dublin’s well-known pubs.

Brewer Shane Long behind Cork’s Franciscan Well Brewery and publican Benny McCabe have added their “expertise” to the project which aims to provide “locally brewed, authentic and refreshingly Irish drinks”.

Some €1.8m is being invested by publicans across Dublin in the brand new brewery which will be available in the 15 founding pubs from tomorrow.

The Palace, The Long Hall, The Swan, The Bankers, Arthur Maynes in Donnybrook, Devitts, Doheny & Nesbitts, Sheehans, Lemon & Duke, The Bridge 1859, The Blackrock, The Bank, McSorleys, Darkey Kelly’s and The Ferryman are among the well-known and popular pubs that are in on the unique venture.

The first offerings from the publican-led project include a lager called Daydreamer and a hazy pale ale named After Hours.

Announcing the new venture on their social media, the firm said they are brewing to customer tastes.

They said: “Welcome to Changing Times Brewery

“We’re a new brewery, based in Glasnevin, Dublin – along the banks of the Royal Canal.

“Founded by the families behind some of Dublin’s best known pubs, along with brewer Shane Long and publican Benny McCabe. Pubs that have years’ of experience knowing their customers’ tastes.

“Changing Times Brewery will provide locally brewed, authentic and refreshingly Irish drinks, brewed to meet those tastes.

“Changing Times – Changing Minds one sip at a time!”

And speaking to RTE the owner of the Palace Bar, Willie Aherne, said the idea, which had been a topic of conversation for years, began to materialise two years ago.

He explained: “We were good pals with Shane for years through his days with Franciscan Well, and we put it to him, what would you think? And we were kind of like, why not?

“So we did a bit of research, we ventured down to Cork and looked at a couple of small little breweries down there and looked at it and did some fact finding on it, and we put it to a few publicans in town who have good family houses in the city. And we said let’s go for it, let’s give it a go.”

The new brewery produces 100 kegs a week for the Dublin pubs but can produce up to 250 kegs a week or over 10,000 a year.

Nine people are employed at the new brewery in the capital.

And Shane Long told RTE the brewery is different because it is led by people who deal with the intended customers on a daily basis.

He said: “Over the years we’ve seen so many products come and go that we were told were the next big thing.

“We’re looking at things a little bit different to that. Everything is changing so quickly and we view that we need to adapt, we need to change quickly and hence the name Changing Times.

“So we are producing beers that we believe our customer is looking for.”

‘LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING IT’

Punters have shared their excitement at the new beers on offer.

Posting on social media Alternative Dublin, who create lists of the best things to do across the capital, welcomed the announcement.

They said: “This is mad! Surprised nothing like this has been done before.”

Another person added: “This is amazing news. Best of luck to all involved.

“Can’t wait to try a couple (or many) of the new brews.”

Another excited punter added: “Best of luck Changing Times Brewery and all involved, buzzing to see what is to come.”

And another said: “Congrats looking forward to trying it all.”
