A PUNTER has discovered a unique Guinness “old style” glass after being served one with it at an Irish pub.

The famous Guinness is often served in a large ‘Gravity’ pint glass with a harp symbol and the Guinness logo but an Irishman did not receive that with his stout in this case.

The Guinness Gravity Pint Glass is uniquely designed to showcase the velvety black colour of the stout as the glass widens at the top and has thin, lengthy walls.

However, an Irishman who popped into a J&K Walsh pub to get a pint of Guinness while visiting Co Waterford was immediately left confused by his order.

His Guinness drink was served with a short wide glass and a handle, completely different to the normal Guinness glass he was used to.

After being served with a unique style of glass, he took to social media to share his discovery and many punters were left obsessed with it.

Sharing the picture of his discovery and captioning the post, he wrote: “Pints in Waterford are different.”

A Guinness punter spotted the Irishman’s post and immediately recognised the old relic.

The Guinness punter wrote: “Old style Guinness tankard, Waterford Crystal used to make them for them.”

It was believed that Waterford Crystal used to produce old-style Guinness tankard glasses until Guinness discontinued production and replaced it with the slightly tulip-shaped pint glass.

The tulip-shaped pint glass was redesigned in 2010, the first time in a decade, as it is now replaced with Gravity Pint Glass – taller and narrower than the previous design and now featuring a bevel design.

The old-style Guinness tankard has a wide top, meaning the head will be smaller than the normal head that is usually seen on normal, taller pint glasses.

However, the old-style Guinness tankard isn’t completely out of style as it is still served at some pubs in the rural – some are reported to be in Galway, Limerick and Wicklow pubs.

Many Guinness fans were left shocked by his discovery and immediately rushed to the comments.

‘Looks classy’

One person wrote: “I’ve been to this pub and after I came back home to Wicklow and I enjoy the pints. I think Waterford has some of the best pints I’ve ever had.

“This pub being my favorite. I love the atmosphere. No music.

“Just chit chat and staring at beautiful pints.”

Another person added: “Looks classy.”

The third person said: “Walsh’s. Unbelievable Guinness in there.”

The fourth person added: “That’s a fine looking pint, enjoy lad.”
