A NEWLY opened Irish bar has been slammed after announcing their dress code online.
Freshly opened Dempsey’s Bar in Balbriggan, Co Dublin has sparked a lot of debate online after announcing their new policy for the pub.
Placing a plaque at the entrance of their pub, Dempsey’s listed the new policy which includes one very unusual request.
The rules include an age restriction, a behaviour code and a dress code – which is the rule people raised the biggest issue with.
The policy reads: “The management strictly reserves the right to refuse admission to the premises. Strictly over 23s. Proof of age required.”
The rules when it comes to the dress code read: “A neat fashionable dress code is required. T-shirts, round-necks, and trainers may only be allowed at the discretion of the staff/management.
“No hoodies, baseball hats, beanies or coats to be worn upon entry.
“No collections or ticket selling, etc. Patrons are advised that the entire premises is CCTV covered, and such footage may be use in evidence where an incident has occurred or requested by the garda.”
Locals quickly took to Facebook to share their uproar at the dress code, and particularly took offence to the “no coats” rule.
One person said: “So you can’t wear a coat going into a pub. Do they realise this is Ireland, ffs.”
Another said: “Lol. So, no coats but doesn’t mention Track Suits, lol. And what do you wear in winter or at Christmas. Lol, no coats.”
A third wrote: “It’s not the 90s anymore. No trainers or T-shirts? They may as well have put over 50’s on the sign.”
A fourth added: “So I can wear my jammies once I’ve no coat on and a pair of stilettos.”
Another said: “So it dosent matter if I’m an axe murderer once I’ve a round neck top and no coat.”
The bar itself has not officially opened its doors to the public, but The Irish Sun has learned they are hoping to serve customers by either April 25 or April 26 – once no coats are in sight.
